....You can intrude upon a person’s business, destroy their reputation within their community and their inner circle, even go to the extreme of eliminating that inner circle, but the ultimate prize in destroying a person’s life is to occupy their mind. I had begun to judge the world from the position of someone unjustly accused, tried and convicted. I assumed alternate identities and safeguarded my whereabouts. I had become aloof, scrutinizing, resistant. I was not a terrorist, but I suffered the consequences of being treated like one. It was the most thorough kind of infiltration.
